My name is Maggie.
I waited such a very long time for a forever home, for some one to love and care for me the way I would do for them. Before I reached Merlin's Hope, I sat for months at another rescue. I've been a ward of Merlin's Hope since last October. I was found tied to the door of the post office. Abandoned there overnight and found by a benevolent person in the morning.
I'm such a brilliant, elegant girl, but most people who saw me wanted the, "boxy" face with wrinkles everywhere. Little did they know that I'm a Traditional Sharpei. I'm the way Sharpei used to look back home in my country of China. I'm a true example of my breed. Sharpei didn't start out with big boxy muzzles and loads of wrinkles. People make us that way.
There is now quite a controvery over the possible superior health and ability of the Traditional Chinese Sharpei, versus the "Meatmouth", North American Sharpei.
Things have drastically changed for me though. I'm in the absolutely right place for me, with a family who loves me to pieces. I now have a new sister and a Mom, and I'll be doted over, well fed and taken care of furever! What more could a girl like me ask for? and just look at how happy I am!

Dogs like Maggie are why Foster Homes are so important to rescues. Sometimes, it takes quite a while for the right family to come along and the foster home becomes so instrumental in offering refuge to candidates while they are waiting to be adopted. Maybe you'll consider becoming a foster home for us one day too!
